    FEM Structural Analysis of Critical Heat Flux Test Facility

    The present work has been performed in framework of the research program between Gruppo di Ricerca Nucleare San Piero a Grado of the University of Pisa and Nuclear and Indusrtial Engineering srl. The research aimed at the design and construction of a test facility for the experimental investigation of Critical Heat Flux phenomena at the same conditions as the reference PWR. THe present thesis is related to the structural analysis of the test facility, having the purpose of otimizing the facility layout and designing the support structure in compliance with the applicable regulations. Reference was made ASME VIII-Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, adopted both for pipilines and for vessels. The analysis were performed by means of Finite Element Method using ANSYS APDL MECHANICAL release 15.0 and ANSYS WORKBENCH release 15.0 codes

    Abstract. The Late Triassic foraminiferal genera Amphorella, Spiriamphorella, Urnulinella, Pseudocucurbita, Paratintinnina, Costifera and Siculocosta are considered junior synonyms of the genus Cucurbita. Consequently, the number of families of the Milioliporacea (Miliolina) is significantly reduced. The valid species of the genus Cucurbita are considered to be Cucurbita infundibuliforme JablonskĂœ, 1973, C. subsphaerica (Borza & Samuel, 1977a) comb. nov., C. longicollum Senowbari-Daryan, 1983, C. battagliensis (Senowbari-Daryan, 1983) comb. nov., C. cylindrica (Senowbari-Daryan, 1983) comb. nov. and C. floriformis (Altiner et al., 1992) comb. nov.

    Posterolateral arthrodesis in lumbar spine surgery using autologous platelet-rich plasma and cancellous bone substitute: an osteoinductive and osteoconductive effect

    Study Design Prospective cohort study. Objectives To analyze the effectiveness and practicality of using cancellous bone substitute with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in posterolateral arthrodesis. Methods Twenty consecutive patients underwent posterolateral arthrodesis with implantation of cancellous bone substitute soaked with PRP obtained directly in the operating theater on the right hemifield and cancellous bone substitute soaked with saline solution on the right. Results Computed tomography scans at 6 and 12 months after surgery were performed in all patients. Bone density was investigated by comparative analysis of region of interest. The data were analyzed with repeated-measures variance analyses with value of density after 6 months and value of density after 12 months, using age, levels of arthrodesis, and platelet count as covariates. The data demonstrated increased bone density using PRP and heterologous cancellous block resulting in an enhanced fusion rate during the first 6 months after surgery. Conclusions PRP used with cancellous bone substitute increases the rate of fusion and bone density joining osteoinductive and osteoconductive effect

    The old and the new: vaccine hesitancy in the era of the Web 2.0. Challenges and opportunities

    The phenomenon known as Vaccine hesitancy (a term that includes the concepts of indecision, uncertainty, delay, reluctance) is complex and closely linked to the different contexts, with different determinants: historical period, geographical areas, political situation, as complacency, convenience and confidence towards vaccines. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends to constantly monitor vaccine hesitancy and any proxy of it. Given the growing importance and pervasiveness of the information and communication technologies (ICTs), the new media could be exploited for a real-time tracking of vaccination-related perception by the lay-people, enabling health-care workers to actively engage themselves and to plan ad hoc communication strategies. The analysis of so-called "sentiments" expressed through the new media (such as Twitter), the real-time tracking of web-related activities enabled by Google Trends, combined with online specific "surveys" on well-defined themes administered to target groups (like health-care workers) may constitute the "Fast data monitoring system", enabling to get a snapshot on the perception of vaccination in that place and at that time. This type of dashboard could be a strategic tool for public services, to organize targeted communication actions aimed at containing Vaccine hesitancy

    From 1988 to the present the Institute of Marine Biology and Ecology of Piombino has studied the marine environmental situation of the Gulf of Follonica (Italy), in collaboration with the Universities of Siena, Pisa, Urbino, Sassari, Corte (FR) and the CNR of Pisa. In recent years erosion has drastically changed the sandy beaches mainly as a consequence of the constant retreat of the P. oceanica meadows whose possible causes have been studied. Also in the Gulf of Baratti the methods adopted for the defense of the beach have been inadequate

    Morphological characterization of Amiata donkey through Multivariate analyses

    ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the morphology and biometrics of female Amiata donkeys reared in four different areas of southern Tuscany, Italy, to determine the differentiation degree of animals. Four southern Tuscan areas were investigated: two mountainous zones (East and West Amiata) and two flatter areas (Coastal area and Siena surrounding). Morphology and biometrics of adult female Amiata donkeys were collected to determine the homogeneity of the population. Primitive coat markings typical of the breed (shoulder and leg stripes) were found in Amiata donkey. Jennets from Siena surrounding were more dolichomorphic, while West Amiata individuals were smaller. The Principal Component Analysis and the Discriminant Analysis separated the Siena surrounding jennets from the other populations. This result was confirmed through the heatmap representation. The biometrics found in this research confirm that Amiata donkey is a small-medium sized breed suitable for different purposes
